The Werkkreis Bildender Künstler e.V. (WBK) turns 70. To mark the anniversary, the association is showing the exhibition “Zeit fließt – Was war? Was bleibt? Was kommt?” (Time flows – What was? What remains? What comes?) at the Forum Kunst & Architektur on Kopstadtplatz in Essen.
The open members’ exhibition revolves around the theme of time – memory and change, lifetime, social change and the question of what comes next. 44 artists of the WBK take part; traditional techniques stand alongside digital and experimental processes.
I am represented with the immersive work UHRWERK. It borrows from BRUTAL VERDREHT, my group of works for Giganten & Kunst at the Hansa coking plant. The theme is related, but in content it is a work of its own: rotating elements move in the background and form the clockwork.
The exhibition is on view from 6 to 27 September 2026. The programme of the opening on 6 September: a welcome address by Lord Mayor Thomas Kufen, a welcome and introduction by Christoph Zimmermann, chairman of the WBK, and the performance “Der Schatten der Zukunft” by Jens Hölmer. On the weekend of 26/27 September the exhibition is part of Kunstspur Essen; the closing on 27 September at 5 pm features a short excerpt from the Rabbit Hole production “Ketzer”.
Forum Kunst & Architektur, Kopstadtplatz 12, 45127 Essen. Open Tuesday to Friday from 12 noon to 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 pm.
